Qantas 32 Pilot Confirmed as ICAS Convention Keynote Speaker

October 15th, 2024

When the inboard engine on the left wing of the Airbus 380 suffered uncontained failure over the South Pacific Ocean on November 4, 2010, the fate of the 440 passengers onboard Qantas Flight 32 from Sydney to London became entirely dependent on the ability of the flight crew to work together and solve multiple, serious problems and challenges, including damage to the wing, fuel system, landing gear, flight controls, and engine controls. The story of how Captain Richard de Crespigny and his crew relied on their collective crisis management and problem-solving abilities to safely land the immense, double-decker airliner at Singapore’s Changi Airport is the stuff of best-selling books and made-for-television docu-dramas. But it is the narrative of how the incident impacted de Crespigny and the lengths to which he went to minimize the affects of the incident on the passengers who flew with him that day that will make this one of the most memorable keynote addresses in ICAS Convention history.

As you make your plans to attend the 2024 ICAS Convention, be sure to schedule your travel so that you can be with us on the morning of Tuesday, December 10 for Captain de Crespigny’s recounting of this harrowing and ultimately uplifting tale.
