The 99's Museum of Women Pilots Launches Air Show Exhibit | March 20th, 2021 |
In honor of Women’s History Month (March), the 99s Museum of Women Pilots in Oklahoma City has launched a new exhibit spotlighting women airshow performers. Through generous permanent donations and loaned items, the exhibit features pilots Jacquie Warda, Julie Clark, and Patty Wagstaff, and wing-walker Ashley Shelton. Items on display include flight suit-adorned mannequins, airshow posters and programs, performer access badges and lanyards, an Aresti card, banners, model airplanes, aerobatic competition medals and trophies, books and photographs. Warda’s display covers her aerobatic competitor, air racer, and airshow histories. Clark’s collection spans her relationships with two major corporate sponsors. Wagstaff’s flight suit was the first donated to the Museum after it opened in 1999. Shelton’s display includes a costumed mannequin strapped into an upper wing rack to which a wing walker straps herself for aerobatic maneuvers. The exhibit will run through September after which a new group of women performers will be featured. The 99s Museum of Women Pilots is a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization with over 5,000 sq.ft. of displays and artifacts focused on preserving the history of women in aviation, honoring their past contributions and recognizing current achievements. Other exhibits include Amelia Earhart, the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots, and Jackie Cochran. Located on Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, OK, it operates Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., by admission.
