As part of a consortium of general aviation associations committed to battling user fees, ICAS needs your help in convincing your congressional representative to sign a letter opposing user fees no later than March 29th. Early next week, the U.S. House of Representatives will send a letter to President Barack Obama asking him to not pursue user fees (click here to view the letter). Thus far, 196 congressional representatives (click here to view that list) have agreed to sign the letter. It’s important that the air show community do its part to help in this effort. And it’s important that we do it THIS WEEK.
If passed, this fee would have a devastating impact on commercial and general aviation, as well as the aviation manufacturing industry. The House has rejected fee proposals on various occasions in the past. Aviation contributes more than $1.2 trillion to our economy each year and provides 11 million jobs. During these challenging economic times, the industry should not be saddled with more than $1 billion in new costs each year. This would have a detrimental effect on the competitiveness and future of commercial and general aviation. You should also emphasize that the air show business is already suffering through a difficult year that would be made significantly worse if these aviation user fees were approved.
If your congressional representative’s name is on the list, we encourage you to send them a short thank you note.
If your congressional representative’s name is NOT on the list, we encourage you to contact them. Ask for the Transportation Legislative Assistant and urge them to consider signing the letter this week.
