As the July 31 deadline for requesting U.S. military jet team participation approaches, word has reached ICAS that the Air Force and Navy have received surprisingly small numbers of requests for the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels, respectively. And the Navy tells us that it is probably advantageous to turn in the DD Form 2535 as early as possible…even if it does not include the official endorsement of the local FAA official (that FAA sign-off is required eventually, but can be passed along to the Navy later if necessary). As the team builds its schedule, it tends to first consider those applications that it gets early. So, submitting the DD Form 2535 before the July 31 deadline might give a show a slight advantage. Remember that air shows are requesting the support of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds in 2013 and the support of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels in 2014.
