For the fourteenth consecutive season, ICAS conducted its Academy program as a “living classroom” opportunity for air show professionals. This year, the air show team at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in eastern North Carolina hosted a group of 27 ICAS members on May 3, 4 and 5.
Led by ICAS Academy coordinator Breen Zamora, MCAS Cherry Point personnel provided a comprehensive and extremely detailed overview of the planning and execution of the 2012 MCAS Cherry Point Air Show, including sponsorship, marketing, logistics, contracts, emergency response, concessions, hospitality, public affairs, security, traffic/parking, and overall management. Their explanation included a 200+ briefing book that included everything from vendor contracts and sponsorship proposals to detailed information on the event’s emergency response plan.
Participants in the ICAS Academy program included representatives from the Mid-Ohio Valley Air Show, MCAS Yuma, MCAS Kaneohe Bay, MCAS Beaufort, NAS Patuxent River, Mississippi Air National Guard, Indiana Air National Guard, Iowa Air National Guard, Niagara Falls ARB, Westover ARB, MacDill AFB, Seymour-Johnson AFB , Luke AFB, Davis-Monthan AFB, Little Rock AFB, and Spectacle Aerien Bagotville in Quebec.
ICAS has tentatively scheduled its ICAS Air Boss Academy program for Little Rock AFB in Arkansas in early September of this year.
