After beginning his air show career just a few weeks after his 60th birthday in 1998, Herb Baker has announced his retirement as a performer. Best known for his wing-tip vortex smoke system and smoke rings, Baker performed in his T-28 “Ditto” for fifteen seasons.
He offered this advice to his fellow AARP-aged performers: “Be aware of yourself and your circumstances. Always anticipate what might happen. Be prepared. Use check lists. The memory may not be what it used to be for most of us. Stay in condition mentally and physically. Keep your weight and blood pressure under control if you’re going to put lives on the line with your flying activities.”
